Welcome to Al-Nisa Assocation N.I.

Currrent news and information

Al-Nisa Association NI is currently undertaking a large Qur'an project. This project involves all our volunteers and is taking up the maximum of their time.  Since 2008, we chose not to apply for further funding for the organisation and focus on the Qur'an project which will benefit not only Muslim women but the whole community.

As a result you will find that our activities and services are much reduced from previous years, however we still provide advice and signposting for Muslim women in need and some information and training sessions on Muslim Culture and Traditions with a focus on women's rights and responsibilities.

Background

The Al - nisa group was set up in November 1998 by a group of Muslim women in Northern Ireland.
Why was it necessary to set it up?
The group was needed to address specific problems facing Muslim women in Northern Ireland.
The organisation provides a support network for women who are living in isolation.
A number of Muslim women expressed the desire to have the support of a women’s group to share experiences, and help support each other.

Aims and objectives

• Improve education and understanding of Islam among Muslim women and young people
• Guidance for Muslim women & referral of Muslim women to mainstream support services
• Monitoring the implementation of key government strategies and representing the issues of Muslim women
• Through the provision of training and information sessions, tackle stereotypical images of the Muslim community and promote good relations between communities
• Networking with the voluntary & statutory sector at the local, national and international level to improve services and quality of life for Muslim women.
